All About Boston: What it Takes
The world famous Boston Marathon is coming right up. We are launching a 3 part series to give you an inside look at what it takes to qualify for this race, train for it and experience race day!
This year the race is on April 18th, also know as Marathon Monday. The Boston Marathon is traditionally held on the 3rd Monday in April, and the entire city of Boston 'shuts down' for this huge event. There are close to 1 million people who line the course of the marathon to cheer people on!
In the running world, qualifying for the Boston Marathon is almost like qualifying for the Olympics. The standards are set high and it takes serious dedication in training to get into Boston. Here are the 2017 qualifying times by age group:
As stated by the Boston Marathon Association, registration is opened to the qualifiers first. "Achieving one’s qualifying standard does not guarantee entry, but simply the opportunity to submit for registration." You must run a qualifying time on a certified course at a qualified race. Many races will list whether or not they are qualifying races for the Boston Marathon.
It takes a lot of work to qualify for the Boston Marathon, register and then train for the race. We are very proud to have three of our Ultima Ambassadors participating in the 2016 race!!
